Building Services Maintenance, Healthcare - Switchgear

Building Services Maintenance, Healthcare - Switchgear

Our Customer’s Challenge

A planned preventative maintenance programme of the main switchgear of the Hope Building, Salford Royal Hospital needed to be expertly and efficiently organised with 4 separate group stages required to accommodate section boards 1 through to 4. Group 2 included section board 2, the main distribution panel  supporting high dependency, acute patient care facilities including critical care units (CCU’s), main theatre and coronary care as well as the main communications hub for the hospital.

The client was concerned about potential loss of supply to the main switchboard and essential mechanical plant distribution board and was looking for a contractor who could ensure supply resilience throughout the project works.

The Quartzelec Solution

Familiar with working within a healthcare environment, the team were focused on extensive resilience planning to deliver continuity of critical supplies throughout the intrusive maintenance works which would be carried out to BS6243 whilst complying with HTM 06-02.

Consideration was given within the planning phase to allow for dual generator positioning to ensure normal ambulance activity as well as segregation from public access. Utilising secondary supplies and parallel generator support on the main switch board to support all of the critical infrastructure, allowed the works to proceed with all essential supplies supported throughout.

In addition temporary connections were installed to provide essential mechancial supplies; cold water pumps and heating and ventilation pumps.

Key Benefits

Extensive expertise in working with public facing, high pressure environments saw this stage of the maintenance programme completed to the highest standards:

  • All works completed during night time hours
  • Live working site maintained
  • Completed on tight timescale
  • Working closely with site FM team with regular reviews and updates
  • Maintaining essential supplies
