Lancashire County Council

Background

Quartzelec have been carrying out testing and remedial works for properties belonging to Lancashire County Council for the past 15 years. All works have been secured under competitive tender. Previous years orders have been worth approximately £400,000 per year.

The Project

Before the testing programme, Quartzelec liaise closely with the site manager to agree a programme of works and obtain information on procedures, site access, inductions, permits to work, security and fire system operation and any other relevant issues. Quartzelec will confirm any planned shutdowns with the site manager and keep these to a minimum in order to keep the site running as normally as possible.

Electricians perform a visual inspection, compile test schedules and check earth continuity by non-obtrusive means followed by the testing procedure as in the IEE Guidance Note 3 and Quartzelec Safe Systems of Work. Any remedial works found can be rectified by Quartzelec electricians following authorisation from the Lancashire County Council Project Manager.

Any Code 1 defects that could cause immediate danger to persons or property will be immediately reported to the Project Manager. Quartzelec electricians will make safe and await further instructions.

Outcome

The report and drawings are compiled and delivered to Lancashire County Council within the agreed timescale. Monthly progress meetings are held with Lancashire County Council Managers to discuss progress, safety issues, completed reports and costs.
